Over 300 firefighters from across Canada and the US made the brave ascent up 1204 steps of western Canada's tallest building to raise awareness for those living with cancer. The 58-floor Bow Tower is one of Calgary's most recognizable buildings, punctuating the skyline at 775 feet high. Beginning their grueling journey from the ground floor lobby, firefighters laden in full gear made the ascent - the fastest firefighter making the round trip in just over 12 minutes. The Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge attracted over 1000 attendees to the Bow Tower, cheering on the brave contestants from the streets below.
To accommodate the unique street-side location of the event, PK Sound deployed a system consisting of 8 CX800 dual 18" subwoofers, a VX10 compact line array with 4 modules per side, and 3 Klarity 12's for outfill. A custom truss structure was assembled for the stage area to accommodate special programming for the event, including heartfelt speeches from the firefighters and their families.
Karen Perron, Event Manager from Wellspring Calgary says "The addition of PK Sound’s stage, music and sound system helped move the 2016 Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge to the next level. By providing the platform for participants to tell their stories and celebrate the lives of those they were climbing for, the event was able to connect to participants on an emotional, heartfelt and personal level."
The event was a resounding success, raising over $180,000 in donations and building awareness for those living with cancer. PK Sound is honored to support such a unique and successful fundraiser and looks forward to supporting Wellspring through future events.
